Why is my WiFi faster than ethernet?

Whenever I download games on Steam from WiFi its super fast. I can download 70GB in only 20 or 30 minutes. I have 1000Mbps Xfinity. But when Im on ethernet its not as fast. I don't know the exact numbers, but Ive done it enough times to know WiFi is much faster. All drivers are updated.

I don't think theres anything wrong with the ethernet cable or modem. I was even talking with the technician who set up my internet and he was fully aware that I was getting 1000Mbps. So he obviously knows to give me the proper equipment.

Although WiFi is faster, I feel that since its wireless it may have hiccups during online play.

It doesn't really matter what the numbers are I can clearly see that download times are quicker over WiFi but alright. But last few times I ran speedtest.net it said something like 100mbps over ethernet. Don't get that either since my plans for 1000. Dude said I wont get that full gig sometimes but that's only 10 percent of what I pay for.

there is a lot of info missing here

is your wifi integrated on your motherboard or did you buy a wifi addon card or USB dongle?

what withfi are you using? the 5ghz AC band or the older 2ghz band

how fast is your ethernet port rated for? 10/100 or 10/100/1000 same goes for the ethernet ports on your xfinity router

THAT is your problem right there, fix that.

The "technician" only cares that the ISP delivers the speed to the modem, after that he's done, he's not responsible nor wants to spend the time to make sure all your LAN pieces are talking properly, you probably didn't pay him to do that.

Holy shit I just switched to ethernet and speedtest reads 947 mbps and wifi only did 400. But I swear to god the last few weeks wifi has been downloading my games faster. its exclusively on steam, if I download a movie it will not be as fast. this is how id describe it...on wifi it downloads 100mb every second. but on wifi it was slower than that. but this was a few weeks ago. it may be different now. TBH I think there was a problem with my ethernet and wifi drivers and I might've fixed it as I remember messing with it last week. I recently installed new wifi drivers but that doesn't explain the ethernet.

Motherboard is ASRock Z370 pro 4
The wifi card is an asus PCI card, I replaced the long antenna cable with two antenna sticks that screw on

card is capable of 5ghz and 2.4

I just remember I was having problems with my 5ghz connection appearing on wifi. disabling the ethernet didn't work, I had to actually unplug the ethernet cable rather than disable only. After that the 5ghz connection appeared on my wifi list. but that doesn't explain at all why the ethernet connection was reading only 100mbps before or why downloads were faster on wifi.

The 2 tinny LED by the ethernet cable, on your Mobo as well as the switch port you are connected to, tells you instantly whether you have a gigabit, or 100m connection. If your Mobo has the KILLER feature, people often complaint about that, disable everything related to KILLER.

Just probably a broken cable, and there is a reason we ask for speeds, because we can determine a lot of information just from speed alone, so don't try and say it doesn't matter and that you know it's slower, because without the information it is harder to find the solution.
