Won SSD but no slot on motherboard?

Solution
Yes. You'd need a PCI adapter to NVME. Do a search on Newegg.com or Amazon.com There are many out there.

Just make sure to get the one compatible with your board. Are you using PCIe? PCI1?, PCI2, PCI3? etc... look up your mobo specs and make sure to get the correct card that matches your PCI version.

Since your mobo is 10 years old. I'd guess you have PCIe and PCI2.0. But still double check the mobo manual just to be safe.

You can sell or trade it with someone for a SATA SSD drive. If you did not open it yet would be best for your options, even if new people would rather get sealed items.

Or keep it and look into upgrading your computer with a new motherboard/CPU/RAM setup that can use the drive.

The fastest transfer speeds will use PCIe full sized or Express.
PCI Express X16 to M2 "not the Express version"

These will be on the same lines as a normal SSD in terms of transfer speed.

SATA to M2 Your using a DDR3 slot

M.2 PCIe NVMe to U.2 Adapter- provided you have the Connector.

Avoid buying M2 to SATA 3 adapters they don't seem to work well if at all with NVME drives but support NGFF with no problems.
