Hello guys,
should i stick with i5 7400 or i5 6500? i have them both, dont talk about price, i just want to know which one to sell, mobo maximus hero viii, gtx 980 oc msi and 16gb ram ddr4, i went to a bottleneck calculator and i saw with the 7400 theres less bottleneck than with the 6500 but i also see 6500 is a bit faster, literally my head blew up because i don't really know what to do, isnt a 7th gen processor supposed to be better than a 6th gen one?

helppp

They are practically the same, 7400 with a max turbo of 3.5 or a 6500 with max turbo of 3.6 100 MHz or a generational 3% improvement. 7400 was huge over the 6400 though. See what they sell for on ebay and sell the one that has a better price.

Performance increases have been relatively flat since 2nd gen, it took Ryzen to make intel offer 6 cores in 8th gen and 8 cores in 9th gen

They are about the same with a slight single core boost advantage to the 6500 but the 7400 enjoys a slightly higher 3 core boost so really they are about equal. 7th generation is better but the model of that 6th gen i5 is slightly higher than that of the 7400. Ignore the first number for a moment. 500 is greater than 400. Right? But now let's consider the first number again. 7 vs 6. 7th gen is greater but not by much. The 7th gen is just a refresh of 6th gen anyway with higher clocks. So a lower model 7th gen is about equal to a slightly higher model of the 6th generation. Another example is that the i7 7700 is about equal to the 6700K. The non K version is a lower model. I would keep neither. Sell the CPU's and get an i7-7700K. A better option would be to sell the whole kit and caboodle and get a Z370 and 8700K or 9700K if you can wait that long.
