Help me figure this out.

I currently live in a rural area with no access to WIFI. But I am a gamer with a cellular internet connection.

So I decided to tether my phones internet to my PS4.

Sadly my phones carrier doesn't allow "Hotspots" so I had to find an alternative. I came across an App called Foxfi/PdaNet which allows Bluetooth and USB tethering between and android phone & PC.

I successfully did this no problem. I got my phones internet tethered to my computer.

To get internet access on the PS4 I had to go to network and sharing center and share connection between my Computer and PS4 via Ethernet. Piece of cake. I could run any game no problem with no lag at the cost of a slightly high ping.

Every game worked with this, until now.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 seems to hate my internet connection setup. I cannot run the application without the game freezing and crashing my ps4. I can go to my friends house and run the game just fine on their internet. It's a very odd problem that I've come across, as no other game has had this problem. If I turn off internet connection on my ps4 it's starts up just fine and goes to offline gameplay easily. I'm not sure what causes this & why it does it. <Redacted>

I am surprised you got that mess to work. You are using both your phone and your computer as a router. ICS in the computer tends to have lots of strange issues but i can not see how it has issues with only 1 game.

The PS4 should think the connection is ethernet. The PC really is doing nothing other than providing a block of ip addresses to the ps4 via dhcp and running nat. I would go back and check all the settings int the ICS setup. I know nothing about the app software other than they have a paid version which you likely need.

Almost all ISP allow hotspot mode. The issue is how they charge you for it. I suspect you are trying bypass one of the "unlimited" plans that have extra fees or data caps for hotspot/tethered usage. Be aware the ISP knows the trick you are attempting. Most clearly say they monitor usage. They know certain sites...like game sites..can not run on a phone so you are up to no good. They may ignore your abuse for a while but don't think they don't know you are doing it. You could make your complex things even more complex by adding a VPN but you generally have to pay for good ones.

At some point life is easier to just pay the money to the ISP and do it simple way.
