Hey all,

I built my first rig as of a month ago. I stressed tested the CPU and GPU for 30 minutes straight and got 60-70C for both. For the month I have had no issues with gaming. Until..........

As of yesterday, when I play games like SC2 or GW2 for about 2-5 minutes, the computer locks up and the fan gets really loud and stays that way until I force the power off. During gaming, the temps for both CPU/GPU are around the 60C. When I stress test, the CPU responds the same as before (no issues), but the moment I test the GPU the exact same crash happens. I doubt it's a temperature issue since the crash happens at the same instant I test the GPU, but I could be wrong. I'm updated on drivers for the GPU; I'm hoping the GPU isn't faulty since it's about 1 month old, but I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions what I should look into next? Thanks.

My Build:
-PSU: Seasonic G Series 650 SSR-650RM 650W 80+ Gold ATX12V & EPS12V Semi-Modular SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 105 °C
-OS: Windows 10 pro 64 bits
-CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Processor
-RAM: G.SKILL Aegis 16GB 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200)
-GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC
-Motherboard: ASUS Prime X470-Pro AMD Ryzen 2 AM4 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 USB 3.1 ATX

Look in Reliability HIstory and Event Viewer for error codes and warnings that occur just before or at the time the fan gets loud.

Likewise use Task Manager and Resource Monitor to observe your system from boot up and up to when you play a game.

Before playing, move the Task Manager Window or Resource Monitor to one side and leave open to watch. Then game.

Good chance that you will see what leads up to the crash.

I'll look into the MHz and BIOS recommendation, as well as monitor harder when gaming. Right now I'm stress testing again, and there is no freezing, the GPU hasn't had any issue for 20 minutes of stress (so that's weird). But when it goes nuts again, I'll get back to you guys, thanks a bunch!
