Is the hd audio just for the front case audio plugs?

I just drove 5 hours to get my NZXT H500 and started my build when I noticed my hd audio cable is mangled (2 wires unconnected and the actual plugged squashed so it's unusable however if it's only for the front audio then I could care less.

Its just for the front panel. My old motherboard's port was too far away to plug in so I just tucked it away.

Oh good, the drive was a nightmare as someone crash on the way back and I was stuck in traffic for awhile. Looking at the case closer it appears that I may be able to disconnect the wire and do a RMA with NZXT.
