So i made a custom built pc using the AsRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard and a ryzen 3 1200k and im looking to upgrade, the first thing i want to check is if a ryzen 5 2600 is compatible with the ab350 board.

Will i have to update the bios or will it just work as soon as its placed in?

Solution
Yes, you will want to update the BIOS BEFORE doing a CPU swap. The Asrock motherboards make it pretty easy to upgrade. If you have an ethernet cable connected, you can update right from the BIOS user interface.

So thats clear now, cheers. I have a few more questions now though.

So i don't have ethernet but a wireless connection, do you have any video or guide on how to update BIOS beacuse im not too confident unless following a guide and also i know that if something goes wrong it might cost alot. (Dont spend too long if you can't find something, ill just look it up myself, just want to know if theres like a recommended guide or something)

And just to clarify, the ryzen 3 needs to be in the system while updating BIOS and afterwards its all good to chuck in the ryzen 5?

Yes, you have to have your current CPU in the system to do the BIOS update. If it was me, I would carry my PC to an area where I could hook up an ethernet cable and use the BIOS tools. That is the most surefire way. That way is documented in your owner's manual.
