So, I just finished my pc, well almost. I have the MSI Z370-A pro motherboard. I have 2133mhz 2x4gig ram. When i try to use both sticks in the correct seating order, my pc wont boot. However when i use only one stick in A1, it boots just fine. I have a I3-8100 and no graphics card yet. Ill be getting the gtx 1060 soon though. I've read up that all you have to do is enable XMP but it says its not supported. Im having a bit of confusion on this topic. Is my ram not compatible cpu or motherboard? im really not sure what to do. Not sure if i need new ram or not. or if i should wait on my graphics card.

Mind sharing the stickered information of the ram sticks? If not, then can you pass on a link to the rams you're using? Unless your sticks of ram are not advertised to go at a higher frequency than 2133MHz, you're not needing to enable X.M.P in BIOS. You may want to see what the BIOS info for your rams are looking like though. Lastly, are you on the latest BIOS update for your motherboard?

On page 15 of the manual under Specifications it reads "Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)".
Also according to the manual on page 5 slot A2 should be used if you are using one RAM stick. I know it works in A1 for you but I always follow the manual.
Have you tried each of your RAM sticks alone separately?

So, the link to the ram i got is as follows:
https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Signature-288-pin-PC4-17000-PSD48G2133K/dp/B00OQY10L4
Apparently some people have said that i need to use XMP to use both sticks but its not available so.

Im just not sure why i cant use both sticks. Is it because i cant use XMP?

1. test ram as mentioned above by SgtScream
2. replace any ram needed found defective.
3. 2133 mhz is a standard base number for ram, XMP will not make it run any faster.
4. to use XMP to have faster speed, you will need faster ram (ie 1600-1866-2400-2666- 3000-3200)
5. using xmp on 2133 dual chips will provide no speed increases nor will it hurt it, as system will reconise the ram chipset identifier as 2133 max speed and system will set xmp speed to be just that.

Okay, Im not really worried about it not getting faster. I just read that sometimes you cant use both sticks if the xmp isnt enabled. If thats just not true then im not sure why i cant use both sticks. Ive tested to see if they both work and they do. what else could stop my pc from booting while using two sticks?

So, i placed both sticks of ram in A1 and A2 and it booted and gave me a message saying "Memory modules were found on non-optimized slot..." then tells me the seating order A2 and B2. When i try the seating order, it wont boot. Anyways, i clicked okay on that message and it boots right up. Is it okay to run my pc like this or is there a way to optimize it differently? or is this even a motherboard issue?

The point of this is to test each ram stick individually in the correct "optimized" slot. If your computer boots with each stick individually you've now ruled out your memory as being defective.
