Hey guys,

I am having this issue about some CD's. Here is the thing; I had some CD's that are untouched since 2002 and protected from Oxygen and other outside effects which are used just once in 2002. Now i got to get the contents of those CD's but when i try and put them in my ODD i am having this error: "Windows cant read the disc in drive F:\" and below it says that: " Make sure that the disc uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need the format it before using it."

I have 17 CD's which one of them is Fujifilm brand (which is recognized by my ODD) and other 16 are Princo brand CD's that are not recognized. If you ask me the model of the Princo branded CD's its impossible to say because they are printed on the top.

I assume that this might be an issue due to a technological difference between a 2002 ODD and a 2018 ODD. I also thought that the reading and writing speeds might be the problem as well, and also i am not sure if these CD's were written in a Windows or a Mac environment which might be another problem.

What are your thoughts guys? Do you think that these CD's contents can be reached or not? Does anyone know or can guess what might be the main issue here?

Thanks in advance for all your help and time.

Regards

Its an age thing, not compatibility or technological difference.

Oxygen or not, CDR's can and will degrade over time.
I have a couple from mid 90's that read OK. Others, don't.

A pressed CD that you'd buy is different than one you burn in your PC.

You can try other optical disk drives, but if they can't be read by another drive, there's not much you can do. No idea how these are written in the first place, but knowing won't actually help you now. If these were for long-term storage, better-quality CD-Rs were called for and if the stuff is important, you need to "check in" before 16 years have passed.

First of all i would like to thank you for your time and thoughts. I would like to indicate that i thought that i have lost this album where the CD's were archive but you see, when i was cleaning up and rearranging my archives i have just found them. If i would have found them earlier, i certainly would have back-up those cd's.
