Computer crashes when gaming with horrible screeching sound (youtube link)

Hi,

My computer crashes while gaming and makes the noise in the first video (in real life it's much more piercing) through the audio source that is plugged in at the time.

Without providing specs of the computer, is there anything that this could possibly be? I also have a problem where whenever I watch video or game, the computer will freeze momentarily and make the buzzing noise seen in the second video

Any help would be much appreciated. Also apologies if this is in the wrong place in the forum. I am also happy to provide further details if necessary but it's late right now and I just wanted to make a thread as this has been driving me mad!

Thanks!

see temps then use HWinfo, case is decent but check your CPU (it should be idle 30-40, on load 60-70 MAX) GPU temps need to be around the same as CPU, and Mobo should be 60 MAX. if any of those are off check them for dust and...

Hi norsalc

Sorry took a while to get back to you, my specs are as follows : (I built this an age ago so don't have all the details)

Intel Core i5 2500K
Asus P8P67 Pro R3 P67 MoBo
TX750w corsair psu
8gb gskill ram (pc3-12800 ddr3 xmp 1600mhz)
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC 6GB
Hard drive unknown but it's not an SSD
TPLINK Wireless 11n PCIe Adap

Hope fully that's OK for specs, I can't find one of my order invoices so I am unsure on specifics on the ram or HDD

As a further bit of information, it crashes running fortnite so the system isn't even working very hard. I've noticed artifacts before playing games like bf1 or csgo but that's usually after a while but this new crashing is happening within 30 minutes of game play

first try the standard, Update drivers / Remove OC / Check Temps. but this looks like a RAM issue, please try https://www.memtest86.com/ to check the memory if everything is ok with memory and Temps. if still problem is there remove everything from the Mobo just leave in 1 stick of Ram, CPU, harddrive (try to run videos and play games on the intergrated Graphics) and see if it happends again, if not put back GPU and test again (do Clean Install Of GPU drivers). hope it helps

Thanks Zero, I have run memtest86 before but didn't find any problems. If it's memory related could it also be the HD?

Also, stupid question, but if I have 8gb of ram (comprising two sticks of 4gb) it can run with just one in?

So I ran Memtest and found no errors again

I remembered my computer also had a habit of sometimes just rebooting itself on its own, out of the blue, while gaming (With no error messages or anything) so I suspected temps may be a cause of the issue. I played last night but opened up the panel of my computer and didn't have any errors whatsoever.

I feel my case might be a bit too small with poor ventilation (Antec 100) so is there any case which you guys could suggest which would be a good option?

Thanks

Edit: yes you can run only 1 stick of ram (you will lose dual channel but PC will work normal).

Temps are fine I think - CPU idle is in your range and on load about 70. GPU temps reach 70-75 upon gaming so probably a bit high there. I did recently change the thermal paste which helped reduce temps but I think before buying a cpu cooler I might add in an extra fan on the side and see if that helps, especially if you think the case is ok.

I think one of the problems is the airflow in my case as the cable management is pretty shoddy given the fact that I don't have detachable cables on the PSU so they are flowing literally everywhere...

Thanks for your help!

Having looked up my case to see what size fans I should buy, I've just realized that I don't have any intake fans as the two factory provided ones are exhause fans! I guess that should solve my problems.....

It will improve it, but if those are the temps it doesnt seem to be much. You would get less temps. See if you have something like GPUtuner like msi afterburner sometimes they can overclock your card above its limit (my friends pc would crash if he has msi afterburner active). But check in event viewer after the crash and see what crashes.

Thanks for your help with this zero, just a quick update in case anyone has similar problems in future. I decided to buy two new fans before tinkering with the gpu and the lower temp have definitely fixed the problem. I have played multiple long hours sessions with no buzz or crash, so that seems to be the solution for me,
