Hello everyone. Someone knows if a GPU with more VRAM is better or a GPU with GDDR6 to run in high quality? I would like to replace my GTX 970, not sure buying GTX 1080ti or wait for RTX 2070 will be better.

And using all VRAM can cause any problem to the GPU? Playing AC Odyssey in middle-quality use at least 2.5gb vram, so I wonder if using more vram can cause problems.

More info:
Mobo: MSI H270m mortar arctic
CPU: I7 7700 OS: Win 10 pro.

Solution
GTX 1080 ti is alot faster than RTX 2070 ...

and dont worry much about using all the Vram wont harm anything. however , your GTX 970 has only 3.5 GDDR5 and 0.5 slower ones , so if you use more than 3.5GB on GTX 970 the card will slow down.

It's a mostly irrelevant question on modern cards that are really not VRAM limited like cards used to be. Anything from a 6GB GTX 1060 and up is not going to have any major problems do to memory.

What is relevant is what resolution you expect to be playing at for the next three years?

I always love how everybody slings recommendations out there without having a clue what the probable, or actual, requirements are going to be for the system based not only on the core hardware, but resolution and expected quality settings as well. It's like telling somebody they need a #$$%ing Corvette when they ask what car they should buy, and then it turns out they only using it to go grocery shopping and to get back and forth to school.

Seriously? A GTX 1080 ti or RTX 2070 for "middle quality"? Especially if they're playing at 1080p? C'mon people.

LOL.

At 1080p, most games are hard pressed to even use 3Gb of gpu ram, most of what you'll see is system ram usage. It's only the uber graphics on AAA titles like BF1 that'll really use more and even then, not that much.

The biggest users of gpu ram are resolution hogs, 1440p, 4k DSR, 4k monitors and games like BF1 in 4k can top closer to 9-10Gb.

But for a standard 1080p monitor? At 60Hz? Best thing you'd ever need would be closer to a gtx1070 or rtx2060. Even 4k DSR will be hard pressed to get even close to 6Gb.
