PCPartpicker is a very good reference in terms of compatibility. Is the 1080 a new addition to your system? If so, what did it replace? It is possible that the PCI/E cables from the PSU are defective, or the PSU itself might not be working as it should. It is even possible that the PCI/E slot on your motherboard is defective. Do you have another PCI/E slot to install the GPU in to test it out?

Welcome to Tom's!
How old is your PSU? The VS series of PSU is not one of Corsair's better units.

Should be ok to test your card in the other slot, just to eliminate a problem with the GPU.
