If I were to upgrade from 8gb of ram to 16gb. Should I get the same 2x4gb ram I have now at 2400 or is it go to get different brand but same specs?

To maximize the chances of the new RAM cooperating with the old RAM, you want as close to the original RAM as possible. So if the same brand and specs is available, that would be the best option.
