I have a HP 8300 SFF desktop with i7 3770, 16gb ram, 2TB HDD, 256 SDD & GT 1030. Recently i came across some videos which show use of PCI-E riser cables. So i was wondering that can i use a GT 1060 or 1070 with PCI-E riser cables and an external PSU connected to the GFX card? Card will be mounted outside the desktop via help of riser cable.. Expert opinion & help required. Thank you

Yes that will work if the PSU can support the load of the GPU. Just ensure that the riser and GPU are being powered by the same PSU. Also, you'll need a jumper for the external PSU to get it to power on. You can make one at home with a...
That desktop does have a 16x PCI-E slot so so yes, a 16x to 16x powered riser will work.
I'm assuming you're going to want to use this for gaming, so keep in mind that the 1x to 16x risers WILL limit your graphical performance on those cards. It must be a 16x to 16x to not limit the card.

Thanks for answering. Yeah,i am going to use 16x to 16x riser. My main concern is that if i supply power to the GPU by external PSU , would it work? Anything else that i should be aware of?

Thanks for helping me out. But it think jump starting the PSU seems more risky. Also i cant supply power to GPU from the desktop PSU as it is low powered, thats the reason i was planning to use external PSU to power it up. So i am dropping the idea of using external GPU with riser cable.
