Have you tried using the original discs that came with the MacBook Pro? I ran into this issue on a few machines that we were trying to upgrade to SSD's way back then, and we noticed that it would fail when trying to recover from the net. When I reinstalled using the OEM discs, it installed without issues, and I was able to upgrade it to the latest OS at the time. Hope this helps.

Did you try going to apples site and downloading from there ? You may end up having to buy physical media unless you know someone with a mac to burn them for you. Good luck
