Is this a good mid-to-high range PC?

Okay thanks! I’ll look at faster ram and go for the 8GB instead, but I thought NVMe was quite a bit faster than SATA?
(Also by productivity I mean schoolwork and some video editing and maybe some streaming)

It is in certain specialized cases - but in typical use, a normal user will never be able to benefit from it.

From this article:
SATA is slowest: SATA isn't as fast as M.2 PCIe or a PCIe add-in card, but the majority of laptops and desktops can take 2.5-inch SATA drives and many doing typical mainstream tasks users won't notice the difference between a good recent SATA drive and a faster PCIe model anyway.

I'd also suggest this power supply:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KmgzK8/seasonic-focus-gold-550w-80-gold-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-ssr-550fm

I did a quick search on the CX-M series of Corsair - looks like the older ones were bad, and the newer ones might be better, but the one you picked says "classic version" on the Newegg link.

The Seasonic has a longer warranty, is a little more efficient, and Seasonic is definitely a high quality brand.

Same amount of money up front, but the Seasonic has a longer warranty, but only a $10 rebate instead of $20 rebate. I'd strongly recommend it. More than worth it for the extra $10 cost.

Is the R7 really that much better for an extra $40? Just by a quick comparison it doesn't seem like it.

My instinct says no - but here's an opinion on it:

I think the slightly higher speeds and lower price of the R5 2600 for gaming purposes is better than the extra cores of the R7 1700.
