Good evening everyone,

I have an external hard drive that stopped working properly some time ago, I am gonna try to explain how it isn't working properly and what steps I have taken thus far in order to try to make it work.

What it does:
So, when I plug in the external HD, sometimes it will appear on windows showing that 150-ish gb left of 931gb
So, at this point sometimes, I can open it and see all the main folders but I am unable to enter any one of them, it just end up not responding.

First attempt at a solution:
So, I tried the chkdsk /f thing, but it says it cannot work on raw drive

Second attempt at a solution:
I tried to recover data with EASEus, but after dozens of hours of it running, it still didn't find anything, is it weird considering it still shows the hard drive at almost maximum capacity short of 25Xish gb?

Third and last attempt for now:
Well, I took off the case of my external disk and directly plugged inside my desktop computer (SATA), but here again, it's gonna show when I reboot windows as if it's here ( might disappear randomly sometimes though ) and again when I try to enter one of the subfolders, it'll not respond and the disc just disappears from windows.

At this point, I am not sure what I could try to access it, if anyone has a solution, I would gladly hear out what you have to say, thanks a lot for reading this.

Best regards

If you absolutely have to have what is on there and are willing to pay a LOT of money to get it back then stop right now and consult a professional service.

If you are never going to pay upwards of $1000 to get back your data then there is no harm in trying to get at it yourself.

Try running GetDataBack Simple. It will tell you if it sees any data and if it does then you can pay to license it and recover the data (I think $80 USD last time I checked). I have used it many times with great success. It can take hours to scan so don't get discouraged if it doesn't complete quickly.
