Which is better at overclocking and thermals:
EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW 3

Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme

or
GTX 1080 Ti Rog Strix OC edition

All three are going to be very similar. The Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme has the best manufacturer overclock out of the box. All three have three fan GPU coolers. The Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme is the onle 3-slot card of the bunch. That will complicate the installation of the card. So Of the three I would get the Asus GTX 1080 Ti.

If you know for certain that the motherboard slots will accomodate a three slot card, then maybe choose the Aorus GTX 1080Ti.

I have a method to pick between equally performing products.
Go to Newegg and find the candidates.
Filter on the reviews by verified buyers.
Then look at what percent of the reviews have zero or one eggs indicating some sort of a problem.
In particular, look at the reasons for a bad review. Some are not very valid, so exclude those.

By that method, the EVGA unit looks best.

Graphics card vendors bin their chips and use the better ones in factory overclocked versions
that they can sell for more. You may be able to OC more, but then again, perhaps not.
They try to differentiate by adding cosmetics and fancy coolers which also sell for more.
I do think you get fair value from a modest factory overclocked card.
If you need more performance, they buy a higher tier card in the first place.

Plus the EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW 3 is $290 cheaper than the Asus and $380 less than the Gigabyte (at Newegg).

I vote for EVGA as well. But because they have the "step-up" program. so you will have 90 days after purchase to upgrade to another card for the price difference. and that is the price difference between what you paid for the 1080Ti and the new card at the time of upgrade. So if after 90 days you want a 2080Ti you could upgrade for whatever that difference is. If prices drop to $900...then it would only cost you $100 to jump to a 2080Ti.
