Running a fresh install of Window 10 ok, but want to use for light gaming and wondering if its worth adding more memory and upgrading the CPU? if so whats a good CPU upgrade these days...or should i just build a new budget gaming PC.

any ideas would be appreciated.

Your looking at an 8350 FX. However, the AM3+ architecture is now dated. Unfortunately, it didn't keep up with CPU's back then (single thread performance) and it definitely won't be anywhere close to the Ryzen's (see where I'm going with this?).

That 8350 will generate more heat, so keep that in mind. You'll probably need a better cooler. Also, more RAM = more heat. This is only a concern with the 8350 since, again, cpu adds a lot of heat.

In all honesty, and this is coming from an FX 8350 fan, safe your cash and go with something else, much newer, with better performance. Unless you plan on running multiple VM's or apps at the same time, the FX 8350 is not worth upgrading to. Mention the 9350, and I'll tell you the complete...

Mention the 9350, and I'll tell you the complete opposite, although you'll definitely need different components for that type of setup. Good luck.

I don't think it's worth spending any money at all on these older AMD machines now except maybe on components that can be transferred into a new machine in future like a better graphics card or an SSD say.

I'd say try some of the games you want to play and if you find it's not playable and you are still keen start saving for a better machine. Even a Ryzen 2200G or 2400G using it's built in graphics would likely give a much better gaming experience.

There are a lot of older and less demanding games available on the PC that you can have a lot of fun with though, depends what you are into. Focussing on finding things you can play is one way to get the most out of what you have.

One example for me personally, I like old style dungeon crawlers and spent a huge amount of hours playing through legends of grimrock 1 & 2 both of which will play on very low end hardware. I'm not suggesting you will like those games, just that fun games exist that you will be able to play - and there's a lot of them.

Yeah not much point in upgrading your current system maybe with the exception of the GPU it depends if your 730 is GDDR5 then just save up for a better system. However if your GPU is a 730 DDR3 I would say look into upgrading to maybe GTX 1050 Ti and when your ready you can move that GPU into a new system.

If do look into getting a better GPU I would recommend Evga's B-stock item I know every Wednesday they have a small sale you can get GT730 GDDR5 for under $40, GT 1030 in the $60-70, or/and to get GTX 950 SC's those are $90 right now but probably a little cheaper during their sales. I would personally look at the 950/1050 for under $100 as a solid upgrade coming from even a GT 730 with GDDR5 if you can't strench to the 1050 TI.
