I've got i5 8400 proc. and I need to buy the motherboard, but the problem is I can't understand the difference between the sockets, exactly the 1151 and 1151v2? Can I buy the v2 version and would it work as a 1151 exactly?

Solution
You need a 300 series chip set motherboard for your 8th-gen i5-8400. So an H310, H370, B360, Z370, Z390.

6th and 7th-gen can run on 100 and 200 series LGA 1151 motherboards; and 8th and 9th-gen have to run on 300 series LGA 1151 motherboards.
