I want to overclock an 8600k or the 9600k to 5GHz on air cooling (Already got cooler.)
Price doesn't really matter as long as it isn't a giant price tag.

Thanks.

Thermal Grizzly is talked about a lot these days, but just about any paste will work well. As mentioned above, good application make the most difference...too little or too much can have negative impact.

Example: for the CPU testing and reviews I do, I apply paste the same exact way for every single cooler tested. Not only does this create less of a variable, it also means you conserve thermal compound over a period of time...especially useful if you apply it often like I do.

You cant go wrong with Thermal Grizzly, Gelid GC extreme, Cooler Master MasterGel Maker Thermal Paste or the cheap as chips MX4...still a great TIM.

I have used MX4 for a long, long time and tried the others as well. I did find the Cooler Master Master Gel a bit better but only due to the consistency of the paste which was a lot easier to spread...but they will all do a great job.

The Grizzly Kryonaut is no better than Gelid GC extreme and is surely not worth the price they're charging for the Kryonaut vs the amount of it you actually get, which IMO, is a joke!

With Thermal compound there is really nothing magical as it's only purpose is to take the place of the air gap between the 2 contacting surfaces which is metal to metal.

The amount of thermal compound needed is in direct relation to the finish levels of the mating surfaces.

Rougher surface finishes require more thermal compound to fill the imperfections of the 2 surfaces.

The finer surface finish require much less thermal compound, as you only want to cover the cpu heat spreader with the thinnest even coverage layer as possible.

Usually the cheaper you go with your CPU cooling solution the less time they spent refining the product, as refining cost money, and you get what you pay for.

If you have a rough finished surface you still cannot beat old faithful, Artic Silver 5, as it is one of the best filling TIMs for larger space gaps that you can get.

I personally recommend Gelid GC Extreme.

Note: So many have asked how much, and how to apply, assuming if they follow someone elses instructions to the letter all will be fine.

Completely clueless as to what's going on under the cooler once it is mounted, because they never pull and inspect the thermal footprint to know 100% for sure.

So if you want to be 100% sure pull the cooler and inspect the thermal footprint, then you know.
