USB Card killed my components ... Are they dead forever?

Hi,

Short version

I bought a 5 slot USB 3.0 card on Amazon. It appears to have been faulty and the result is that everything I plugged into it has now stopped working, even on other computers.

The question I have is ... are all these expensive items ( oculus / camera / mic / razer rgb matt ) all dead forever? Or did the USB just do something to them that is fixable?

Longer version

As noted above, I bought a 5 slot USB 3.0 card on Amazon from what I thought was a good company. I installed the card and turned on my computer, only to smell burning electrical. I immediately turned off my computer, checked all the connections, and turned it on again to see if the smell came back ... it did not.

Here is what I bought:

After installing the new card, it worked for a week. No electrical smell and no problems. Then, my Oculus Rift stopped working yesterday and I started trouble shooting. I tried testing the ports which is how my other items got plugged into it, and initially it just looked like dead ports.

This morning, I tried something different which is when I discovered that the card was killing my peripherals. I plugged a USB Drive into my second computer that works fine ... the USB was recognized ... then I plugged the USB into a working mobo USB port on my problem computer and it was recognized ... then I plugged the USB into a port on the broken card and it did 'not' recognize ... and most importantly, when I then tried to plug the USB drive back into a port on my second working computer, it no longer recognized it. And any item that I plugged into that bad card no longer works on other computers.

After this happened, I went back and looked at the few bad reviews on Amazon, and I found a single review with the exact same problem:

Main Question

I know I need to replace the defective card. But are all those items I plugged into the bad card dead? Did it fry them with too much power or something? And most importantly ... is there any way to reboot them or reinitialize them or get them working again?

I've never seen anything like this before.

Ty in advance.

I’ve used that card with my Oculus for over a year without issue.

Given your issues I would try to get a replacement or refund and attempt to get your devices repaired via RMA. I doubt Intatech covers damage to devices but you could try.

Based on what I'm reading in various places ... it sounds like the USB likely caused a voltage spike and damaged/killed the peripherals permanently. If anyone knows differently, please let me know since it's a big hit :/

Thanks Jed70.

I've been poking around on this all day, and it looks like it 'is what it is' ... a faulty care that fried my devices. Based on this unfortunate experience with Inateck, I have zero interest in gambling on another one of their cards even if it is an uncommon occurrence. I'm going to pay the extra dollars and go with the Highpoint card that Oculus recommends if price isn't an issue.

Cheers.
