Unresponsive LCD - Wrong GPU BIOS?

Hey all, searched the forums high and low but cannot seem to find any threads that pertain to my unique situation. Hopefully y'all can help :)

I have a Eurocom Tornado F5 (MSI 16L13 Chassis) with a GTX 970m.

The GTX 970m that originally came with the laptop died (was causing the power adaptor to short so the laptop could not accept AC power). I removed the old 970 and purchased a new 970m on eBay for the laptop. The seller indicated that it was for Dell and MSI laptops.

After installing the new card, the LCD on the laptop is not working at all. I cannot even see the BIOS on the screen. However, the laptop is perfectly functional through HDMI on an external monitor. The 970m drivers installed without issue and I can play games and use the laptop as normal - just no internal LCD function.

I opened the laptop up and checked the connectors at both the motherboard and LCD side, no apparent damage. I took the LCD off and inspected, no visible cracks or damage.

Weirder still, Windows can detect the internal LCD, and believes that it is in use (i.e. Windows is acting as if im running dual monitors with the external monitor, even though only the external monitor displays anything).

I checked out the new card in GPU Z. While it says the subvendor is MSI, the BIOS listed for the card is 84.04.2A.00.06. According to Techpowerup, this is a Clevo BIOS. I'm here asking for help mostly because I really don't want to undertake the risk of a vBIOS flash if I don't have to. Also, from what I've read here about vBIOS flashing, there's almost no good reason for it in regards to troubleshooting.

I could still return the card, but Id really rather make a good faith attempt to fix it on my end.

Is the vBIOS wrong and could this cause the blacked out LCD?
Will flashing an MSI GTX 970m vBIOS fix the problem?
Does anyone with a Tornado F5 or MSI GT62 have vBIOS info they can share?
Is my LCD screen just busted (possibly shorted when the card shorted maybe)?
Is there any possible way to use the iGPU on my i7-6700k (desktop processor) to troubleshoot the screen without the GPU?
Would a new/different motherboard BIOS help (would rather update motherboard BIOS than flash the GPU if it would be helpful)?

UPDATE: For anyone with a similar issue who finds this thread - the problem was with the GPU's vBIOS.

I examined the GPU in GPUz and found that it did indeed have a Clevo BIOS. I had Eurocom send their most recent MSI 970m BIOS to me and flashed it to the card using nvflash. This allowed the card to properly interface with the internal LCD and fixed the problem!

Graphics driver was updated to the latest version through Geforce Experience. Everything in the laptop works as it should, I can use it on an external display as if it were a desktop. Just the built in screen does not turn on, although Windows DOES recognize that it is plugged in.
