Hey guys, your help would be greatly appreciated as I am a console gaming looking to make the big leap on the pc.
So I've e already got a decent pc that needs some upgrading to get it to where I would like it to be for gaming. After some research I want to use the Asus rog 1440p 165Hz monitor and the 1080ti graphics card but they put me right on budget. My pc has an i7 7700 CPU currently and 4gb of ram. I know I'll have to bump the ram up a little and probably upgrade the psu too. My question is will the i7 7700 hold up to high refresh rates and can you overclock it? Really don't want to change out my choice of monitor and gpu to accommodate a new CPU.

If anyone has any other build suggestions, I'd be open to explore your opinion.

Intel chips that are unlocked for overclocking have a K after the CPU name (I.e. i7-7700K).

Your on track with the RAM upgrade, would suggest 16GB but 8GB will do if thats all you can afford. A couple of things so i may be able to help further...

1. What motherboard are you using ?
2. PSU details ?

Yes, that is good for your i7-7700. The B-series mobo does not allow overclocking and neither does a non-K CPU. But the B-series + the i7-7700 is good enough for just about anything except SLI.

The 7700K does cost more, and requires a cooler, but, is clocked *600*/300 MHz faster than the i7-7700 on base/turbo clocks, respectively...(no minor difference, IMO)

The higher clocks would *undoubtedly* mean higher framerates, a must if intending on using 144 Hz refresh monitor, IMO...

GOod luck
