Hello, i have an Intel Pentium G3240 for my pc and need an uppgrade. Its an old prebuilt with a k30ad_m31ad_m51ad_m32_ad motherboard in it. Im wondering if i can use another cpu. My friend baught a new cpu but it wasnt compatible with his motherboard so I am a little bit scared and doesn't want to buy a cpu if it doesn't work with it.

Look at all the stickers, decals, make, model, version, date, even the serial number on your motherboard.

Go to the motherboard's website and search for your motherboard. Find, if possible, the relevant User Guide/Manual or the spec's that match the motherboard. There should be some listing of the CPU's that will work.

And google the motherboard: look for reviews - some of the reviews may list compatible CPUs.

Details matter.

I'd say any haswell CPU will work but to be on the safe side go with the first release of haswell. For example instead of getting a Core i7 4790 get a 4770. Or if getting an i5 go with the 4670 instead of the 4690. There's no point in getting a chip with K at the end because you probably can't overclock anyway.
