I I have a Sony TV (KD49-XD7005) connected to my PC via HDMI. Is there a way to get the 5.1 audio from the TV netflix app to my PC so I can use my Strix DSP virtual 7.1 surround headphones? Will getting a soundcard with SPDIF input work for this?

You're already getting audio from the TV over HDMI. Your headphones aren't designed to play actual 5.1/7.1 positional audio based on the fact that they use processing to replicate it. That's the whole "virtual surround" part of it. In order to play full 5.1/7.1 audio as it was originally recorded or designed to be reproduced, you'd need a set of headphones built for it. There are a few different manufacturers out there who make them. I can't guarantee that a dedicated sound card is going to help you.

I think the HDMI only outputs from my pc even if the tv hdmi port is arc capable. I know that the headphones are virtual and not true surround but the effect works really well when the movie is 5.1 on pc .on stereo movies sounds echoe and fake
