Eh, I will assume you're asking if HDDs are better as internal or external drives. In your case, using your old HDD as an internal drive is better.
A few things, first, what motherboard do you have? That way we know what upgrade options you have available to you. Secondly, yes using your old HDD as an internal drive will be faster than using it as an external drive, the only reason to have it as an external drive is if you ever plan on taking it with you when you go somewhere. Also, what processor do you want to move to, and how much do you want to spend?
