Hi all. I can't update the Windows 7 machines in the company (yes, we still need to use Windows 7). When I hit "Check for updates" it gives me the code 8024402f. I tried to google it, and tried to troubleshoot (renamed/removed C:\Windows\system32\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads folder, catroot2 (wherever it is), found a tutorial to reset it (disable BITS and other, then run regsvr32 to re-register DLLS) and a few other things) but nothing seems to be working.

Then I found this: https://superuser.com/questions/258531/how-to-resolve-windows-update-error-8024402f-on-windows-7-home-premium-64bit but we could download the updates earlier, so I don't think the problem is in the router/firewall/network hardware. (We were using WSUS, but now it's off. Re-enable it?) This gave me a fresh idea. I opened the windowsupdate.log even before that, and I saw that Windows Update can't download the .cab files, for some reason. What may be the reason? Why won't Windows Update download the .cab files? I tried to go online and copy the path to .cab file from the log file into IE on a freshly installed OS, and I wasn't able to download it right away, I had to refresh the web page several times to download it.

Does Microsoft intentionally block the updates to force the end users to switch to Windows 10? The extended support should last until Jan 2020, after which there still will be updates, but paid, and rare. So there should still be updates available.

OK, I told everything that can help. Now I'll be waiting for your ideas. What else should I do to find all updates?
