I have decided I will be building an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 cpu build, including a gtx 1060 graphics card. However, I am having a very hard time choosing a motherboard, as well as a case...

Some detail you might need :

The price points I am looking for : I am able to get any motherboard for around 100-120 dollars, but if I must I can go higher. However, I don’t expect to have to go higher simply because I am building a pc for the first time and simply want to be able to game. All I need in this mobo is to be able to hook up some leds if possible, to be able to use an ssd and a hard dive, as well as to be able to fit my graphics card and ram. For ram I am not too concerned, will just be getting whatever I can that is also competent.

If you also have time to help me find a fitting case, I would be very thankful. All I need in the case is for it to House my parts and allow for possible future upgrades such as a radiator moiunting for a single fan, and to look nice.

I want all form factors to be in ATX if possible. If you are able to help, I really appreciate it!!

You better be worried about RAM, because memory compatibility is a very real concern with Ryzen, even though it has gotten much better than it was early on. The fact that you have a 1st gen Ryzen selected probably isn't the best option. The 2nd Gen Ryzen process is a LOT more refined, with better IPC, better power consumption (So less heat), better memory compatibility. If you can budget a 2nd Gen Ryzen, it would be a lot better.

I can certainly suggest a motherboard, and clearly anything over 100 dollars that is B450 or X470 chipset would be the good choices, also with better memory compatibility and better power delivery/VRM configurations, but if you haven't bought anything yet it might be better to just offer up what your overall budget is and what parts you DON'T already have, and I can help you select a build that isn't going to leave you with a sinking feeling once you get your parts and realize something was overlooked or might have been done better.

Well I’ve been researching and have almost decided to go with b350 tomahawk. I’ll give you some info though if you think you can help, and I appreciate any help too :)

My budget is around 850 usd, I’m going with gtx 1060 zotac amp 6gb, ryzen 5 1600, the b350 tomahawk, a Samsung ssd, a 2tb bwd hard drive, as well as the p400s phanteks eclipse TG. And also Corsair vengeance 2x4gb ram. Any suggestions?

Couple bucks over budget, but I think you'll be a lot happier with this CPU and motherboard, and I'd definitely choose an EVGA card over Zotac any day of the week. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with Zotac, they make decent products, but EVGA is solid, and has been for a very long time.

They are also a LOT easier to work with than just about any other company when and if you have to deal with an RMA for any reason.

This would be a pretty solid build. I'd have preferred to go with an EVGA G2 or G3 PSU, or a Seasonic Focus or Prime unit, but the CX550 is not a bad unit at all and with about 150w headroom it shouldn't have any issues with heat or noise at all.

oh wow, ok ill take a look at this, thanks a thousand!

Edit : Sadly ive checked local listings, and the mobo and ram arent available... would going for the 2600 still make a noticable difference?

Yes, if you can find a B450 or X470 board locally, along with that CPU, it would be noticeable for sure.

As far as the RAM goes, anything you can find locally based on what is listed at the following link, preferably in 3000-3200mhz speeds, will work fine with it.

These are all user verified on Ryzen. Models using Samsung B-die are preferable but any of those modules should work so long as the board has a fairly recent bios version or is a B450/X470 model.

I recommend avoiding budget MSI motherboards like the plague. If it says MSI on it and costs less than about 130 bucks, forget it, it's not going to be on even my list of options to use in a pinch. Too many quality control issues on their budget series boards.

Yes budget boards are really not good. But still Msi is better in budget also. Like better than gigabyte, asus, Biostar, etc. So for budget Msi is still good

No, they are not better than ASUS, Gigabyte or ASRock when comparing the quality of budget level motherboards. They are also not better, in my opinion, when comparing high end boards either. The only place they compete at all, to me, is in that middle ground between a budget board and a high end one, and even then I'd trust practically ANY board from ASUS or ASRock against ANY board made by MSI at a comparable price point.

If the MSI board is in a similar tier in regard to features and power delivery, and is significantly cheaper, like, by more than twenty bucks, then it might be worth considering. Otherwise, no. And for budget boards in the price range below 100 bucks, I would NEVER recommend any MSI board. MSI boards at the ~120.00 and below mark are usually what I see here with problems on a daily basis more than any other of the four main motherboard brands.
