I have a Toshiba that i put an SSD in and want to put the SSD in an HP i just got. I want to keep all the data on the SSD and don't care about the data on the HP (other than the boot files).
How do i go about swapping them successfully? Both laptops are running Windows 7, 64 bit.

You may run into problems if you try and use the version of Windows that's on the SSD in the HP due to different hardware.

The right way to do it is to move whatever you want to keep off the SSD.....do a clean install of Windows on the HP on the SSD and then move things back.

What if I don't have a disk to do a clean install?

Worth remembering that many drivers won't install if the relevant hardware isn't detected, so it's not as simple as that.
Clean install is the way to go.

I backed up both laptops to my external, made a repair disc for the hp, crossed my fingers and swapped them.
I'm using it now and so far so good. you know you'll hear me howl if problems pop up!
thanks for all your input!
