Hello

I had a custom built computer several years ago at microcenter. I currently have 16GB DDR3 RAM, and would like to upgrade. Not sure what the best option is: add more RAM or replace existing RAM with a new set.

I know its important to match voltage (1.5V) and CAS latency (9), but i get confused with dual channel, triple, and quad channels. I have 8 memory slots, only 4 used. Is it ok to go to 24GB or 32GB and it what configuration ?

Current RAM:
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 CMP16GX3M4X1866C9

Motherboard:
ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011

I never ended up overclocking the RAM, mainly because i dont know how and never go around to researching it. But maybe one day.

Memory is guaranteed in the form sold. Memory manufacturers do not guarantee that adding extra memory will be compatibility with your current memory. Nothing is stopping you from adding extra memory, however you will be responsible for any compatibility testing with no guarantees.
