Hi there-

Looking for a 27"+ monitor and GPU for some gaming (upcoming titles like Cyberpunk)

I have in mind to game in 2K, 4K seems like it might be too much for my CPU and/or budget.

My system:
i5 6000K (not yet overclocked)
Gigabyte GA-Z170X UD3 Ultra
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 RAM
Intel SSD 600p Series (512GB, M.2 2280 80mm NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4)
PSU - XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750W ATX12V v2.2 / ESP12V v2.91

Is GTX 1070 enough? Do I need a Ti? Or 1080?
Monitor: any benefits in a curved design? what about 144 vs 165 Hz?

Thanks!

Yes, the 1080 Ti still performs better than the 2070. And the 1080 Ti is even more ideal for 2K and 144Hz, but it's a decent step up in price compared to a 1080. If you have the money, by all means get it. But if money is a bit tight, I'd rather see you spend a lot on a solid monitor (which usually lasts you longer than a GPU)...

The 1070 Ti is generally considered the sweet spot for 2K gaming at 60Hz. If you want 2K at 144Hz, best to go with the 1080 or 1080 Ti. Or even a 2070 given a few of them are very near the price of a 1080, and they tend to perform a bit better in benchmarks if you aren't using ray tracing.

Thank you! I haven't even though of 2070. Is 1080ti still preferable to 2070, or are they more or less on par?

I really appreciate it!

And, not wanting to start another threat, and while we at it- what should I be looking at in the monitor? I saw a refurbished Asus ROG PG348Q Black 34" 3440 x 1440, 100 Hz Curved IPS G-Sync for $1100CAD (~$840USD) and ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q Black 27" 165Hz 2560x1440 2K for $100 less...

I will admit to being less knowledgeable on all the monitors. I have only a 60Hz 2K myself, and just got a GTX 1080. My wish list includes the Acer Predator XB271HU and the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q.

Just like many don't like 27"-plus monitors for 1080p, I wonder if a 34" monitor may result in a 2K monitor not looking as amazing when you're only 1-2 feet away? You may want to do some quick research on that kind of thing. Pixel density would be lower, for example. I like high pixel density for what I do (work on my monitor, reading text), hence a 25" 1440p.
