Without any knowledge or experience in this area, I bought unmanaged switch TP-Link TL-SG108 thinking that it would require no setup. (plug and play, as advertised)

It did not. On the first try, I couldn't ping one computer to another, internet connection is out of the question. My setup is modem/router > switch > computer. Later I found out that I have to go to 192.168.0.1 to configure the switch. There, I enabled MTU VLAN and set it to Port 1 (router).

To my surprise, everything works fine and accessing 192.168.0.1 now goes to router configuration instead of switch's. However, I am still experiencing occasional internet drop. When they do drop, 192.168.0.1 goes back to switch configuration. This will only happen for approximately 5 minutes before everything going back to normal again.

How can I prevent this occasional drops? I am ready to provide more information.

It seems that your switch' UP address conflicts with some of other devices (even the routet) on your network.
Connect only your PC to the switch, login to the switch, and change it's UP address outside of DHCP scope of the router. You might need to configure temporary your PC with static IP address like 192.168.0.123

I have the same switch and don't remember it this difficult. It could be an open box and came configured with something prior, u may want to reset it to factory. The only thing u should have to do is to give it a unique (needless to say I hope) static IP for administrative purposes, on the same subnet as your current. Of course (needless to say I hope again), your DHCP server already have a static pool set aside just for this occasion.
