HDD works via sata, but not external USB enclosure?

Hi all, I have a WD Red 4TB with data on it that has been used exclusively with an external enclosure (Sabrent EC-DFLT), and has worked for a few months. It now no longer shows up in ThisPC or disk management when connected via the enclosure (although it does power up and you can hear it spinning in the enclosure).

However, when taken out of the enclosure and plugged directly into my Win10 desktop's internal sata connections/power, it IS accessible in ThisPC and disk management and seems to function normally.

I've tried both putting the drive in other enclosures and it does the same thing. I've put other WD Red 4TB drives in the above mentioned enclosure and they work. It's only this one particular WD Red that's not working in ANY enclosure.

Any idea what could be wrong? Is the drive on it's way out? Thank you!

It could be that the drive is taking too long to come ready. If so, then this may be due to internal calibration, housekeeping, error recovery, etc.
