ZTE Z962BL Random Battery Shutdown

My phone is two years old. Last five days the battery goes to zero only when I'm using my data and apps. The apps are the same I've used for over a year. This doesn't occur when I have my charger plugged into my phone and it usually happens when my battery is reading at 85% to 60%.
But the battery doesn't really go to 0%. It'll still read at 60% to 70% when it shuts off and I plug in my charger.
This is why I don't think it's my battery. I did a factory reset. That didn't help at all. I'm wondering if I have corrupt hardware and I need to just buy another phone. Unless I'm wrong and I actually do need a new battery. But that isn't easy to replace with ZTE phones.

N3rdR4ge, thanks for your reply.
Yeah, I guess I'm just the suspicious type. I just figured since my phone only shutsdown while I'm online and and using apps, it was something more nefarious than just my battery. I hoped it'd be something that could be fixed that didn't require cracking open the phone, which I'd have to pay a professional to do.
Well, since you're a 'battery guy', do you have any interim fixes I can use as a band-aid until I get a more permanent fix? And do you know if replacing the battery on this particular phone is even a good idea? Thanks again.

i never took apart that phone, so i'm not familiar with it's process. that being said, if the battery us not somewhat easy to remove, the phone isnt valuable enough to repair. its like a totaled car. unfortunately there are no bandaid fixes for that. i'd recommend a new phone. could be worse, at least it turns on and you have your data.

Yeah. I didn't realize when I bought this phone it wasn't easy or even possible for me to replace the battery. It should last at least 5 years, like a wristwatch battery, since this is the case. For a $300, which is a lot in my opinion, phone it's more disposable than my previous $40 flip phone. Freakin' sucks.
I've thought about buying a rechargeable portable battery booster module to plug the phone into while away from an outlet. But that'd probably cost as much as paying a phone surgeon to crack this piece of crap open and replace the battery.
My phone service ends tonight. I guess this is a sign to dump this garbage phone.
Thanks for your help.
