Hi!
I have just bought a GTX 1080 TI and I am now seeking an upgrade from my I7 3770K to something newer. I am primarily looking at the ones mentioned in the title, but maybe also a newer generation I5. I am gaming on a 1080p screen with 144hz, and wish to get the somewhat most out of the GPU. But since I am a student I have a hard time finding something valuable.

Everybody says to go I7-8700K for gaming, but I am split, since it costs at least 130USD more than the 2700X where I live.
What would be a good CPU to go with? Or should I go I5-8600K and overclock?
Thanks!

The 2700x will give you all the performance you could possibly need for that graphics card. There would be no bottleneck at all using the 2700x and while the 8700k and 9th gen Intel CPUs might have slightly better IPC and single core performance, the threaded performance of the 2700x is better than any of them and the majority of games are quickly becoming optimized for multithreading. Any difference in performance between the 8700k and 2700x is mostly going to be lost as irrelevant as you'll likely already max things out FPS wise with the 2700x.

Save the money unless you REALLY need the stronger single core performance for a specific game that likes a strong single core a lot.
