Computer doesn't recognize old HDD's when using SATA/IDE to usb 3.0 adapter?

I have 2 old hard drives which i think are about 10 yrs old, haven't been used for at least 5, was gonna try to repurpose them but my computer doesn't recognize them.

I have verified the SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 is functional.

Are these sata or ide drives? If IDE the master/slave modes on them can cause trouble.
Also is the adaptor powered? 3.5 inch drives do not get enough power from a usb port alone to spin up and function.

I believe its powered...the light on the adapter is on. And it is SATA

Is it plugged into a usb 3.0 port? For 3.5 inch drives it's not uncommon that they just don't get enough power from just the usb port hence why those external drives come with a power adapter.

There's two products linked. One will only work with 2.5" drives:

As has been mentioned, there's just not enough power from a single USB connection to adequately power a 3.5" drive.
