PC only boots when I reseat my ram

In order to boot my PC I have to reseat my second ramstick into a different slot every single time. If I don't, nothing happens when I press the power button. Same story when I try with just 1 stick.

Things I've done:
- Updated the bios to the latest version
- Checked to see if the ramsticks are compatible
- Tried all possible combinations of putting the ramsticks in (including the recommended slots)
- Enabling XMP makes things worse and I have to restore the default settings
- Moved my fan a little more to the side for more clearance with the ram sticks
- Reassembled everything
- Disabling the windows 10 fast startup
- EZ tuning wizard settings has the same problem as enabling XMP, it just won't boot at all if I use these settings.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Is there anyone with the same motherboard and/or ram sticks, or similar problem?

My specs:
CPU: Intel i7 8700k
MOBO: Asus Prime Z370-P
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3200
Drive: Samsung 970 Evo
GPU: Gigabyte 1080 ti
PSU: Corsair TXM 650W

Solution
Have you tried removing the CMOS battery and unplugging the PSU then pushing the power button for a clear then replacing the battery/ plugging in the PSU and then set BIOS defaults?

Also, I've had to run memtest overnight to catch a corrupt module.

You wrote, "Enabling XMP makes things worse and I have to restore the default settings."

Default setting may be too slow and XMP may be too fast. Try manually setting to 2666MHz. You can adjust the DRAM timings and DRAM voltage to compensate for a slower than rated memory clock speed.

If your overclocking the CPU this flow chart shows when to adjust memory clock speed to XMP 3200MHz.

Removing the battery from the motherboard and replugging everything seems to have fixed the problem. Several boots without any issues. Thanks.
