So this one is a bit strange.

I pulled my XBOX compatible headset out to use with my XBOX compatible controller and suddenly it isn't working. The headset plugs into USB connected controller. The controller works fine until I try to plug the headset into it. Then the light flickers a bit, goes out and momentarily freezes WIN10. Then the WIN10 hardware disconnect sound plays. A few seconds later the hardware found sound plays and the light briefly comes on the controller, only to go out again, rinse, lather, repeat.

It seems to me that the headset is causing the controller (PlayA) to go into a crash and reboot loop whilst they are plugged in. When I pull them out the controller works fine again. This seemed to indicate to me that the headset was faulty, however I bought a new one only to get the same issue.

Any Ideas? I am pretty handy with a soldering iron but not sure where to start.

P.S. The driver is the latest release.

Solution
I would suspect a short circuit of some sort - likely with respect to the USB port.

Does the USB port wiggle and move about? Compare to other USB ports that you can look at and test the headset with.

Try putting a USB extension cable in between the headset and Xbox USB port. May change or otherwise provide a more secure or perhaps "un-shorted connection. Temporarily secure the extension cable in place so you can plug and unplug the headphones on the other end without disturbing the Xbox connection end.

Objective is to determine if you are indeed dealing with a physical problem that may require a "soldering iron solution".

Hold on that solution for the time being.....
