Base clock - who wins?
Overclock , no doubt 2600 would win right...

What about gaming performance comparison and multi tasking?

*1 more question* - do ram matter on multi tasking? and game performance such as smoothness and etc.

Solution
Hi,

I encounter similar kind of problem. While my PC runs rainbow -6 siege, i try to listen to you tube songs. It hangs for a sec then comes back.It is basically Overload of the processor[That's what i think, still dont know exact cause of this behavior as i have plenty of ram].I am running i5-6400.I have 2400Mhz 24gb DDR4 ram as i use it for creating videos some times.Even after i patched my bios to latest for cpu micro-code update.Disabling overclocking from Bios will fix this issue to a limited extent but it still remains.I dunno the exact cause of this strange behavior.

I cant say if u experience same on ryzen based processors.I dont think so that upgrading to ryzen 2600 will fix this issue.

Upgrading from i5-7500 to ryzen 2nd gen...

In most games they will be similar, in newer games ryzen might have a small advantage. I think you should go for ryzen regardless of the performance, due to it being newer and most likely cheaper.

Actually planning to upgrade to 2600, but not sure about "is it worth"

I5 7500 can not be OCed
Ryzen 5 2600 can be OCed with ease

Ryzen 5 2600 has 2 more cores and 6 more threads.
I5 7500 has only 4 cores without HT.
Ryzen 5 2600 has 6 cores with HT.
Ryzen 5 2600 stock freq single core performance is about 3% faster than I5 7500.

Actually, it is obvious that Ryzen 5 2600 is the better choice than I5 7500 by single core applications and multitasking.
For most games, there should be nop big difference between I5 7500 and Ryzen 5 2600.
Some games however e.g. BF1 run better on Ryzen 5 2600 due to the more threads.

RAM capacity plays a role by multitasking. The more you do in parallel, the more RAM you need.
If you have already enough RAM but you have more than necessary, you will see no extra performance of the extra RAM.

RAM speed plays a role on Ryzen platform.

"Ryzen has 2 more cores and 6 more threads" => 6 core 10 thread ryzen 5 chip confirmed

Yup! Your I5 7500 is still decent for today. Hey! I am still on E3-1231V3 (about equal to I7 4770), which is basically older than your I5 7500 and I am still sticking to this one.
If you plan to upgrade, it is better to wait and look around first how things will go on the next generation.
e.g. 7nm Ryzen, etc.

Sorry, I did some misstypes there in the older post :)
Ryzen 5 2600 has 6 cores and 12 threads.
I5 7500 has only 4 cores with only 4 threads, since it does not have HT.
This means, Ryzen 5 2600 has 2 more cores and 8 more threads.
I5 7500 (4/4) while Ryzen 5 2600 (6/12)

For todays standard, it is best to get 16GB RAM.

If Twitch is the only one you tried to open, something else is wrong with your system. If you are still having other things, it is possible that you ran out of RAM or the I5 7500 proc is overloaded with the tasks.

What could be the problem if it was my system? Are you talking about the PC components? most probably the ram I think , that ran out of memory.

Upgrading from i5-7500 to ryzen 2nd gen 2600 is not worth it.

Yeti_yeti is right about waiting for 7nm ryzen for a major upgrade over your current system.

Thank you,

Solution

1. Check and clean for possible malwares, viruses, etc.
2. Disable background apps, which you do not need, incl. from autostart.
3. Update all the drivers to the latest version
4. etc. etc.
basically your basic and regular maintenance.

Along with that, check if you set already the correct energy/performance setup in control panel.
