Hello
SoI have Asus X556URK laptop which has a very slow HDD
I bought Kingston A400 480GB SSD to install in my optical drive bay
The problem is I don't know if the optical drive port is SATA III or older (since I need the SSD to have full speed due to my workflow requirements)
How can I tell what gen my SATA is?
And let's say it's gen I, should I put my HDD in the optical bay and SSD on the motherboard?
What type of Caddy do I need and can I place the SSD without one?
Thanks

Not a good idea to do what you are doing. Put the SSD into an external enclosure, clone existing drive to that. Replace existing drive with the SSD, put the old drive in the optical bay adapter.
It doesn't really matter if it is Sata1 2 or 3, as it will work no matter what.
Just 3 gives you higher transfer rate, but speed will still be the same as in access time

You could download CPU-Z and find out what motherboard you have and from there work out the age and what it has on it.
