Computer shuts off when turn on

my computer turns off half a second or so right after i turn it on, but if i unplug the 8pin connector it stays on
my specs are (brand new parts)
I7 7700
Asus - TUF Z270 MARK 2 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
G.Skill - Aegis 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
EVGA - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card
MasterWatt Lite Full Range 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

In my experience when you turn the pc on and it shuts off right away it indicates electrical short and the powersupply goes 'oh hell no'..... and shuts off.

Are you unplugging the motherboard 8 pin power or gpu 8 pin power?
