Laptop Upgrade or New PC for video editing

Hey,

I currently have a laptop with a i7 7700HQ and 8 gigs of ram and I mainly use it to render videos in Adobe AE but this takes between 2-4 hrs to complete. Should I buy more ram on my laptop or should I get a Ryzen 2700x PC with 16gb of ram?

I want to be as efficient as possible without breaking the bank (if possible).

I was surprised at the times there for quite considerable horsepower, but then I looked at Adobe AE, quite the resource hog. Did you take a look at ways to improve rendering speeds here for example? Some useful (?) hardware recs here too.

Maybe not exactly the answer you're looking for, but maybe worth a look before you think of spending considerable $s to bring more horsepower to this.
