i have a question should i buy two 7950's for crossfire which are $150
and then sell my 1060 for 150 i have an Msi 1060 Gaming x 3Gb right now

Solution

A 980 and your 1060 3GB are about the same. None of the exchanges you are talking about make sense. Your 1060 is newer hardware, more energy efficient, and runs cooler. It makes no sense to change it out for used hardware. If you want an actual upgrade you will need a 1070, Vega 56, or better.

the thing is i dont care if its dead its still widely supported for the games that i play
i care about performance

What games? In non supported games you'll be playing with a card that is 40% worse and that is much older.
Most games that do support multi gpu and don't have serious problems/negative performance rarely get over a 30% performance increase with most which is still making performance worse than your 1060. Then you have the other problem that you are going for crossfire which has even less support than sli and you are more than doubling the power consumption compared to your 1060 so you better have a good psu.

All in all don't the handfull of games that will work without problems and have a good performance increase past the 1060 are so far and few between it's not worth it.

mostly assetto corsa which scales pretty good

Another issue I forgot to mention and this is more to do with older cards is frame tearing with the 1060 you can lock your framerate to the refreshrate of the monitor to prevent this but the issue with the 7950's is that due to crossfire you'll still have frame tearing no matter what which can really take you out of the game. Another things is that game gives you about 55% scaling which is good BUT that is not much better than a 1060 AND this is for the 7950's that are running at the 1GHZ core clock not the regular 7950's.

All in all don't do crossfire and keep your 1060 if you really want a performance boost get a 1070 .

sometimes a crossfire 290x set goes for $170 woild that be worth it and is there ant gpu(s) that are under $170 that you can recommend

A 290x is faster than a 1060 3gb.
However what are your system specs? Psu in detail.

Also why is the 1060 not good enough anymore?

i wanna play games maxed out @ 60fps and it is beginning to struggle with my demands

the reason my budget is 170 is because i can resell my 1060 so i dont lose ant of my budget for a new 4930k i have a cooler master masterwatt 700w lite which is 80 plus white
with 4x 6+2 pins

That psu would struggle with even one 290x let alone 2. Just don't do multi gpu focus on a single better card.
Also why the 4930k. What are you specs now?

i have an i5 2400 right now with 10gb ram the reason for the upgrade is the same for my gpu it just doesnt really cut it anymore
but what singel gpu could i get then

https://tweakers.net/categorie/49/videokaarten/aanbod/
this is the site i want it from its a dutch used parts site maybe you can find your way around there

Oh yeah I use that site all the time too. However the 4930k is an odd upgrade considering the huge costs for the board and that a simple ryzen 1600 is as good as it.

Considering they are willing to exchange a 780ti for a far far better 1070 there simply IS something wrong with that card.

i can buy this one https://tweakers.net/aanbod/1800939/msi-r9-390x-gaming-8gb-+-waterblock.html
do you recommend it
or a 690 for $100

Avoid ANY sli or crossfire setup and just look for a single card.

175 for a 390x isn't too bad but your psu is on the edge of not being good enough since it's a low end unit. So if you start upgrading your system further I recommend you replace it before it breaks.

Still the 390x isn't that much better than a 1060 3gb (about 15% which is basically the same as the 290x since they are basically the same card). Not worth the swap.
The gtx 690 even in perfect scaling only matches the 1060 but barely.
