Problems installing Universal serial bus (USB) controller on a Dell 990

I just did a complete Windows 7 pro Dell restore on my 990. For some reason, this 2nd installation of Windows 7 pro left the "Universal serial bus (USB) controller" uninstalled in the device manager. Despite my first installation using the same Dell system restore disk and the same downloaded drivers (Chipset and all available drivers), it DID NOT leave the "Universal serial bus (USB) controller" uninstalled.

I even found a newer chipset driver at the dell website using my service code. The odd thing, according to my records of the 1st installation, there was no mention of "Universal serial bus (USB) controller" not being installed. It showed that 4 drivers needed installed but this time, I had 5 uninstalled drivers which included the "Universal serial bus (USB) controller". And I always take a SNAP shot of the device manager right after a System re-installation to make sure.

However, all my USB ports appear to be working fine. I have tried to right click on the missing driver to search on the internet to no avail. I uninstalled the driver and rebooted. I just don't get it, particularly when all the USB ports are working fine.

The only different thing I did was I didn't install the integrated video drivers because I have a GeForce GTX 570 video card but like I said on my 1st install, the "Universal serial bus (USB) controller" got installed before I even started installing anything. I keep a record of the installation process for future references. Thanks for reading this.

To add what I have already said, I am just wondering, why all the USB ports seem to be working ok. I placed a flash drive in each and under "Universal serial bus controller", everything looks fine according to link below under "Intel Chipset Software installation utility" what should be installed. The only difference is it has 3 generic USB Hub, where I only have 2 but it only has 1 USB composite Device, where I have 2. I uninstalled all USB drivers and restarted and all reinstalled automatically.

Installed: Generic USB hub, Generic USB hub, Intel(R) 6 series/C200 series chipset family USB Enhanced Host controller-1C26, Intel(R) 6 series/C200 series chipset family USB Enhanced Host controller-1C20, USB composite device, USB composite device, USB root hub, USB root hub

I feel really stupid. When you said "did I install USB 3.0 driver", it made me wonder if I installed a USB 3 pci-e card at some point because this computer doesn't have USB 3.0. Sure enough, I installed the "Koutech IO-PEU430 " USB 3.0 pci- card with a (TI) Texas Instrument chip. Once I installed this driver, it went away. Thanks for reminding me. I feel so much better now. I amazing how these things get you worked up.

By the way, the TI (texas instrument) PCI-e card is the only USB 3.0 that I could get to work reliably but they are hard to find anymore.
