So I just recently got a Corsair K55 from a pawn shop, so obviously some of the keys aren't working. (But, hey, it was $15.) It was in an unopened box and appeared dirt free, so I popped the caps off of some of the non-functioning keys to manually push the, uh... I don't know the official name for it. The little plastic white membranes beneath the covers, pictured below.

Pushing the buttons directly without the cover didn't work, so is this completely unsalvageable or can I fix it somehow?

Solution
If pushing in the membrane does not work, you may be able to replace the full switch. But seeing how that keyboard is $50 new, can probably be found on sale for less and can certainly be found in used working shape for much less, you really just spend $15 on a box. By the time you find/buy replacement switches, did the work of replacing them, maybe breaking something else in the process, you would have spent the same as on a new one.

Unless that place was selling it as known bad, you should be able to return it, or at least get a store credit.
