Hello, I recently bought a used dell e5440 I formatted a drive put a fresh install of windows 10 and it seemed to be working fine. However I noticed that the screen would flicker and then go to a black screen. I noticed that certain games forced the issue. I updated all the drivers and went through both dell's LCD checks and they both seemed to pass. When I plugged in a external display, I get an image on the external display. When the screen goes black both fan and drive run.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Yeah I opened it up and found that it was the LCD cable I waited for the screen to go black and fiddled with the cable and the signal went in and out.
It could be a damaged or loose cable connecting the display, or the display itself could be going bad.

A third option is that the graphics card is going. Even though it shows fine on the external display, if they are not using the same card, then it is possible that that could be the problem.

All of these would require the laptop be opened up, checked and tested. If you feel comfortable doing that yourself, great. If not, then I suggest a local tech.

I opened the laptop, however the cable looks to be in okay condition, are there any signs on the cable to look out for or tests I can do to determine if its the cable to screen?
