Hey guys just trying to help out my friend here.

He's running a IPM87-MP HP motherboard and upgraded from a 2x4GB RAM to a 2x8GB Hynix.

BIOS was out of date so he updated it.

He keeps getting the 5 beeps and the computer won't start. He put them in individually to see if they work to no avail - they were seated correctly.

What other measures can we take to make sure it is a faulty RAM we're dealing with? He does not have access to another computer to test.

Thank you very much for your time.

There is, but it's not as effective as a complete HARD reset by pulling the power, pulling the battery for five minutes and pressing the power button for 30 seconds during those five minutes, and then putting it all back and powering up.

Those are DDR3L, low power modules. They are not regular DDR3 modules. That is almost certainly your problem.
Try clearing the CMOS by removing the cmos battery for five minutes, with the power totally unplugged from the wall. Make sure the memory modules are installed in the slots designated by the motherboard manual for two module operation.

What is the model number of the memory kit you are trying to use in this motherboard?

Thanks for the response!

SK Hynix HMT41GU6BFR8A-PB 2x8GB (16GB Total) 2Rx8 PC3L-12800U Desktop Memory

Is there a way to reset the CMOS without removing the battery? I'll have him try it when he's home.

Welp we feel pretty silly right now. He returned them and got new ones and it works like a charm. Thank you and have a great day/night!
