Im planning to build pc with the following spec
I5-8600k
Asus z370F gaming mobo
G skill 3000mz 8GB ram
Asus 1060 6GB oc

Im confused whether to go for i5-8600k or Ryzen 7 2700x with x470F mobo
My main purpose is gaming and some civil engineering softwares which one is more futureproof

Solution
The Ryzen. Easily. Not so much for gaming really, although any titles you might play that have even halfway decent multithreaded optimization will certainly like the Ryzen more, your engineering sofware will probably like the additional threads as well.

As far as being future proof, no such thing, however Ryzen will be backwards and forwards compatible with all CPUs and motherboards through 2021 while the Intel option is already dead. There are supposedly not going to be any more CPUs or motherboards that support the architecture currently used by the 8th and 9th gen CPUs and motherboards, so if you buy those now, plan to buy again the next time you want to upgrade either component.

Are you nuts? Of course it's compatible with an X370 motherboard. It's not the best option, X470 is a much improved over the earlier chipset, but it will sure as hell work on any of the Ryzen CPUs with an X370 motherboard. All you have to do is upgrade the bios if you have a newer CPU. Any X370 motherboards being currently sold likely already have an updated bios anyway.
