My friend that was helping me told me everything was

That's a great quality PSU(overkill for that system but better to be safe than sorry). Considering that, you should test the system with a known working decent quality power supply unit.

If you're absolutely positive that everything is plugged in correctly, then the PSU would be the first candidate since your fans won't even start spinning.

Yep I tried the paper clip test on it and tried a different one and the same result

Also have you tried running with a minimal set of components(1 stick of RAM, Integrated GPU, no storage devices)?

The next thing to troubleshoot would be the motherboard, because that takes care of the power delivery to your components. I guess you don't have a spare one to test, so it would be wise to RMA your current one.

Yep I tried that and still nothing
Well the motherboard I got from a friend who bought it on amazon he never used it and left it on a shelf where he didn’t touch it for 4 months

I’ve been thinking that maybe something isn’t compatible

Oh, I didn't even notice that.... your motherboard is not compatible with the I7 8700. This CPU will only work with 300 series chipset motherboards(H310,B360,Z370,Z390). That Z270 board is not compatible with 8th gen CPUs.

Here's the CPU support list for the ASUS Prime Z270-A

So you should definitely change the motherboard for a B360 chipset one since your CPU is not overclockable.

Even though the CPU is not compatible, fans should still ramp up but the PC shouldn't POST.

So yeah the motherboard maybe faulty + it's not compatible with the I7 8700.

Welp thank you!!
Where can I find a B360?
Also do you know if my ram is compatible?
